ABOUT

VEGAN STORYTELLER

I'm here to grow the vegan movement in St. Louis, the Midwest, and beyond.

I team up with like-minded people and create a culture of collaboration to change attitudes about veganism and animals.

Hi! I'm Jeanette, and I'm here to tell you about Vegan Storyteller.

I’m a photojournalist from St. Louis who has traveled around the world in search of stories. Throughout my travels, one thing has remained constant: my passion for plant-based nutrition. When I returned to St. Louis after 40 years of reporting, I found few establishments with vegan choices. The same holds true in my present travels throughout the Midwest.

After a whole lot of grumbling about this sorry state of affairs, I decided to put my journalism skills into play and launched Vegan Storyteller. My goal is to raise vegan awareness and play a role in normalizing veganism to grow the vegan movement.

As you read through Vegan Storyteller, I hope you will be inspired to collaborate with others at the local level to grow the vegan movement in your community.

About Vegan Storyteller - Jeanette McDermott holds a pot of fresh basil at a farmers market in St. Louis

The Soulard Farmers Market on the South side of St. Louis is a delight for the senses. The market has been an iconic feature of St. Louis since 1779.

I AM VEGAN because I care about animals, my health, and the environment.

MISSION of Vegan Storyteller

Vegan Storyteller normalizes veganism to grow the vegan movement and bring more love and light into the world.

VISION of Vegan Storyteller

77 billion land animals are no longer slaughtered each year for human consumption. 5.1 million people no longer die every year from meat-based diets. Greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture do not impact on climate. This is my vision for the future and the reason I created Vegan Storyteller to grow the vegan movement.

CORE VALUES of Vegan Storyteller

I believe all life is sacred and that animals are of no less value than humans.

I oppose the mistreatment of animals and all pursuits that cause them pain, suffering or prolonged anxiety.

I feel strongly that animals are not here for my use or for any anybody else’s use. They are their own beings, born into the web of life with their own inherent purpose, the same as you and me.

I am ethical and conscious in my conduct. I hold myself accountable for the choices I make of what to put in and on my body.

I take responsibility for the consequences of my thoughts and actions.

I value community and am interested in self-improvement and the betterment of the world.

I believe vegans are connected through the shared ethics of compassion, kindness and health, and that we journey together on a unique path.

I believe vegans are united by a universal and powerful desire to save the lives of people, animals and, ultimately, Planet Earth.
